Will my college credits transfer to Mount Mercy?

College-level credits earned at regionally accredited institutions are evaluated and may be accepted as credit toward graduation from Mount Mercy.

  • 2-year colleges—We accept up to 63 credit hours from a 2-year college. Students transferring from an Iowa community college in the following majors may transfer additional credits as noted:
    • Up to 75 credits for students holding an AA, AS, or AAS and planning to major in a business related field, health care leadership, or outdoor conservation.
    • Up to 86 credits for students entering the RN-BSN program.  To qualify students must hold an RN degree and be working in the field.
  • 4-year colleges—Up to 93 credits can be transferred from a 4-year accredited college, ACE-recommended institution or military program.

Attended more than one school? It's not unusual for our students to have attended several institutions before arriving at Mount Mercy University. To make sure we can transfer as many of your credits as possible, please request official transcripts from all of the previous institutions you attended.

Prior Learning Assessment – We allow up to 30 credits through APEL (Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning) which permits students to request that substantial work-related or other prior learning experiences and accomplishments be evaluated for potential academic credit.

Transfer Tool – Check to see which credits will transfer to Mount Mercy from other institutions you've attended.

Admissions criteria

Mount Mercy evaluates all transfer applications on an individual basis. A variety of factors are weighed by the Admissions Committee to ensure students admitted will find a good fit intellectually and personally, based on preparation and experience.

  • While specific courses are not required for admission, transcripts will be evaluated to ensure a strong college curriculum has been successfully completed.

  • Strong consideration will be given to applicants with a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

  • In accordance with articulation agreements with all Iowa community colleges, associate degree holders with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA will be automatically accepted for admission.
    • Students graduating with an A.A.S. in Business Administration from Kirkwood with a minimum 2.0 GPA are also automatically accepted for admission.
    • Guaranteed admission programs are also available to students from other community colleges.
