Orientation

Orientation will be held virtually this summer. You will have the opportunity to meet with your advisor, plan your schedule, and register for classes on the dates below. Financial aid staff will be available to answer questions during the orientation days or you can reach them anytime at finaid@mtmercy.edu. We are planning an in-person gathering to meet your incoming class later in July/August and during Mustang Welcome. More information to follow.

Saturday, August 21

New Student Picnic: 4:30-6:45 PM | UC Patio
This is the kick off to Mustang Welcome and all incoming students are invited to attend! Food and games will be provided.

Welcome with President Todd Olson: 6:45-7:15 PM | Chapel
Meet Mount Mercy’s new President, Todd Olson, and learn a little more about MMU.

Mustang Welcome Leader Group Meeting: 7:15-8:00 PM | Various Locations*
All new students will be divided into small groups and experience Mustang Welcome together. Each group has two Mustang Welcome Leaders that will provide you with information for your Mustang Welcome experience and answer any questions you may have about MMU.

Residential Floor Meeting: 8:00 PM | Residential Hall Floor
*For residential students only. This meeting will be an opportunity to meet your Resident Assistant (RA), and go through the ground rules for your new home.

Commuter Social: 8:00 PM | Flaherty
*For commuter students only. This social will provide commuter students the opportunity to connect with Mustang Welcome Leaders that also commute and answer any of your commuting questions.

We’ll have outdoor games, trivia, and a bonfire with some s’mores to top off your first night of Mustang Welcome!

 

Sunday, August 22

Emmaus, a student organization, will provide students the opportunity to connect with peers each morning.

Students will learn about campus resources available to them as a student, hear from Nate Klein, our VP of Student Success, and learn how to navigate Brightspace.

Students will be given the option to go off-campus and enjoy what the Cedar Valley has to offer. Off-campus options include: Lost Island Waterpark, Maquoketa Caves, bowling, or a tour of Cedar Rapids (ice cream included).

4. An email with specifics regarding your advisor and advising time will be sent via email the week of your scheduled Orientation date along with all necessary Zoom links.

Virtual Orientation

Your steps to becoming a Mustang:

  1. Watch videos below.
  2. Check class options on MyMountMercy or the course schedule.
  3. Your advisor will reach out to you directly to plan your schedule at MMU and register you for classes.
  4. Once registered, visit Brightspace for your course syllabi and required textbooks (may take up to 48 hours post registration for classes to appear).
  5. Update your emergency contact info in the profile under myMountMercy.
  6. Check your MMU email for the student financial responsibility agreement, and sign prior to the start of classes.
  7. Be sure to sign and return financial aid documentation and check out the video below.
  8. Once on campus, stop by the information desk to get your ID.
  9. Fill out your parking permit information (live in August for next academic year) and pick up at the information desk.
  10. Start classes!

What's Needed

  • Enrollment Deposit: If you haven't already submitted your $200 deposit, please bring it with you at this time. You won't able to register for classes until Mount Mercy has received your deposit. Please speak with your admission counselor if you have any questions about the deposit.

  • Photo ID: A photo ID is required before you're issued a university ID. 

  • Immunization forms: Students must have an immunization form on file with the Health Services office before starting classes.

  • Housing application/exemption: If you haven't already submitted your housing application, you can do it at this time. 

  • Financial aid forms: This step is important so we know you've accepted your aid. 

  • Student-athlete forms: The physical exam form, bio form, and other documents are available on the Mount Mercy Mustangs website under Inside Athletics.

University ID

Residential students get their ID as a part of their move-in process and all first-year students have the option to get their ID during Mustang Welcome. Students that miss previous opportunities get their ID during the first week of classes. Replacement IDs have a fee of $15. The ID center is located at the Information Desk in the University Center. The student ID is used in the following ways:

  • Laundry for residential students
  • Building and elevator access for Regina and McAuley residents
  • Meal plans
  • Library check-outs
  • Printing in computer labs
  • Charging purchases from dining services, Campus Store, or Information Desk to your student account
