Criminal Justice

From Wyoming to the Hill

Matthew Tremain `23 came to Mount Mercy from Wyoming to study criminal justice. He devotes a lot of time to his studies, but stays involved outside the classroom, too. He knows that a Mount Mercy education is the key to his future success.

MMU: What attracted you to Mount Mercy’s criminal justice program?

MT:  Most of my family were first responders and I wanted to follow in their footsteps and hopefully be a police officer, then a U.S. Marshall. A criminal justice degree from Mount Mercy can help me reach that goal.

MMU: You’re from Wyoming. How well have you adjusted to living here in Iowa?

MT: Honestly, I’ve adjusted really well. Out in Wyoming we really don’t have much to do so it’s awesome to have all these new things to try. It’s also been great to meet people from all around the country and the world.

MMU: You’re on the bowling team. How do you balance your schoolwork with your sport?

MT: Like any student-athlete, the student part always comes first for me. I dedicate a lot of time to my school work, and when it’s time to put the work and dedication into sports I give it my all.

MMU: What does a Mount Mercy education mean to you?

MT: A Mount Mercy education means a fair and balanced education in the spirit of our heavenly Father. People at Mount Mercy are open to discussions and they’re willing to learn something new.

MMU: What’s your favorite Mount Mercy memory so far?

MT: My favorite Mount Mercy memory is probably the bowling team winning all divisions in Waterloo this year.

MMU: Do you have any advice for other Mount Mercy criminal justice majors?

MT: Make sure criminal justice is really what you want to do. Dedicate a lot of time and effort to your studies to be successful.
