We make it very easy to transfer credits to Mount Mercy. Military credit and credit for military training and service are accepted.

Mount Mercy accepts credit through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), or through the Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) portfolio documentation. Qualifying students may transfer up to 30 APEL credits and 60 CLEP credits into our degree programs. Order your military transcripts.

Veteran Education Benefits

Veterans work with the Office of the Registrar to receive Veteran Education Benefits. Learn more about the opportunities that are available and your steps to receive them.

With the assistance of the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill®, Mount Mercy can be just as affordable as any community college or state university. We have made the Yellow Ribbon pledge for all veterans who qualify for full Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® benefits, essentially resulting in free tuition and fees.

Veterans Scholarships

In addition to our already generous scholarships, Mount Mercy offers veterans (those transferring from any community college into our traditional undergraduate program) an additional $1,000 Veterans Scholarship towards the cost of tuition. Students must transfer directly from their community college to Mount Mercy.

Financial Aid

Our financial aid experts will help you navigate all the financial resources available to you as a veteran. Veteran education benefits can be used for any of our programs.

Between assistance from federal programs and Mount Mercy's scholarships, we work to find you the best financial aid package possible. Our staff is honored to help veterans and their families take full advantage of the following:

Counseling Services

Free Counseling

The Olson Clinic at our CRST International Graduate Center provides free counseling services to all students. Veterans attending Mount Mercy will benefit from free and confidential counseling services, including individual, family, and marriage therapy. Counseling services can address a broad range of topics such as depression, mood disorders, anxiety, and more.

Career Counseling

Career Services will help veterans explore their interests and skill sets from their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and how those skills translate to civilian occupations. Mount Mercy's connections in the community allow our career services staff to help you identify organizations and events that give hiring preference to veterans.

Academic Support

Academic Center for Excellence (ACE)

ACE provides a variety of services to facilitate academic success for our veterans.

  • Staff members work with students to gain proficiencies in time management, study skills, note taking, and more.

  • Peer tutors—students who have already taken the courses and earned high grades—are available. Peer tutors not only help students learn the material, but can share firsthand experience on the best note taking techniques, test taking preparation, and study methods for a particular course.

  • Our writing specialist works with students at all stages of writing expertise. Students can come to the Center for help brainstorming topics, finding sources, or to learn how to outline a paper. The writing specialist will also provide proofreading and editing of final drafts.

  • Our disability services coordinator is conveniently located in ACE and works with students, faculty, and staff to ensure students have the resources and accommodations they need for success.

Certifying Official

The Registrar's Office will help with all paperwork related to benefits, including certificate of enrollment.
