Opportunities for Students

Courses for Students

We provide opportunities for Catholic high school students to deepen their faith and expand their knowledge through courses and workshops.

Mustang U remote courses offers juniors and seniors at participating Catholic high schools the opportunity to take online on-demand courses taught by Mount Mercy instructors.

Students receive Mount Mercy credit for their courses. A range of topics are available to students including courses in nursing, education, business, science, and religion.

Mustang U also offers dual enrollment courses. These classes are taught by Catholic high school teachers in partnership with Mount Mercy. Students receive high school credit and Mount Mercy credit.

Teaching a dual enrollment course means high school teachers go above and beyond their contractual requirements. To show appreciation for these highly motivated teachers, Mustang U offers a competitive pay matrix that increases teacher pay based on the total number of dual enrollment students taught.

Mustang U has a collaborative relationship with dual enrollment teachers. This includes:

• Assistance with course syllabus creation
• Professional development opportunities
• Increased use of open educational resources

Workshops for Students

Other opportunities we provide for high school students include:

• Our Catholic High School Leadership Institute offers juniors at participating Catholic high schools the chance to develop student leadership skills and serve the community during the summer.
• SPARK is a summer workshop providing high school students from participating Catholic schools the opportunity to develop apologetic and evangelistic skills to strengthen their Catholic faith and to better serve/lead their parish and school communities. The workshop will present Catholic teaching on chosen topics as well as opportunities for students to learn how to defend their faith.

The Catholic School Teachers Academy is a collaboration between Mount Mercy’s Theology Program and Education Department to increase the number of teachers for K-12 Catholic schools.
