Title IX protects students from gender discrimination on college campuses, including reports of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

Each college or university receiving federal financial assistance must designate at least one professional employee as the Title IX Coordinator to oversee compliance efforts and investigate any complaint of sex discrimination.

At Mount Mercy University, the Title IX Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the overall implementation of Title IX for the University. Major duties include, but are not limited to, monitoring the following areas:  

  • Admissions and recruitment
  • Educational programs and activities
  • Housing
  • Comparable facilities
  • Participation in curricular and extracurricular activities
  • Financial assistance
  • Student employment assistance
  • Health services and student insurance
  • Marital or parental status
  • Athletics and physical education

In addition, each school/university must designate at least one employee to evaluate current policy practices to ensure an institution's compliance with Title IX, coordinate efforts to effectively and efficiently respond to complaints of sex discrimination (including complaints of sexual harassment), and ensure as much as possible that every MMU employee and student has an equal education and employment opportunities.
