Maximizing resources

Jonathan Servey ’24, ’26 MA-MFT is utilizing the resources at Mount Mercy University to get ahead, get involved, and build connections.

When finishing up his undergraduate program, Jonathan needed to fill his schedule. He decided to take Marriage & Family Therapy graduate courses through MMU Plus to get ahead and reduce his expenses.

“Being able to get credit for both my undergrad and graduate degrees is very beneficial,” said Jonathan. “It has added more to my plate now, but it will better set me up for success in the next two years and help me save money on credits.”

Not only did he take advantage of MMU Plus, but he also appreciated the other resources Mount Mercy provides.

“When I am struggling with my work, it is nice to get help from professors that care about me and places like ACE, our free tutors,”

While being an RA, involved in the psych club, and a part of many music groups on campus, he has created many valuable connections with friends and professors.

“I’ve made so many lifelong friends who have shaped me into who I am now,” shared Jonathan. “By building connections with professors, I have been able to engage with them outside of the classroom for further help with coursework or help looking at post-graduation plans.”

One professor Jonathan connected with was Dr. Sullivan, who taught his Introduction to Psychology class during his freshman year. Her class made him fall in love with psychology, which helped him decide to declare it as his major.

“She gave me a lot of helpful advice for routes to go with a degree, as well as suggestions for an internship and volunteer work,” said Jonathan.

Overall, the most significant resource Jonathan has benefitted from during his time on the Hill is MMU Plus, and he wants others to benefit from it as well.

“MMU Plus has given me a head start to obtaining a graduate degree while finishing my undergrad,” said Jonathan. “Take advantage of this opportunity!”
