Graduate programs alumni honored with Elevate Award

Mount Mercy is once again partnering with Z102.9 to honor Cedar Rapids community members with Elevate Awards. This newest round of awards will honor alumni of Mount Mercy’s graduate programs who have put their education into practice to elevate their profession and community.

Eight total alums will be recognized—two from each graduate program area, including Business & Leadership, Nursing, Education, and Marriage & Family Therapy. Recipients will be honored on-air each weekday morning from January 8 to March 1. Each honoree will receive a $50 gift card provided by Big Grove Cedar Rapids.

With over 8,400 active alumni living and working the Corridor, Mount Mercy graduates make a difference in the community every day. Committed to being responsive to the needs of local businesses and leaders, Mount Mercy develops programs that fit the skills most in-demand in the community and emphasizes themes like ethics and meaningful service in the classroom, equipping graduates with the skills to make an impact.

The first graduate Elevate Award honoree is Terry Schneekloth '91, '16 MAEd, a teacher and department chair in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.

Terry came back to get his master’s 25 years after completing his bachelor’s degree at Mount Mercy. He says his education has been applicable at all levels of teaching and the reputation of Mount Mercy helped him find opportunities and excel in his career.

“The reputation that comes with being a Mount Mercy graduate is so highly respected in eastern Iowa—it’s remarkable,” he said. “Administrators and school districts are very aware of the quality students Mount Mercy produces. I know it helped me get my foot in the door in the two school districts I have applied for and worked in.”

“I’m proud to be a two-time Mount Mercy graduate,” Terry said. “I have two degrees a quarter-century apart—it’s never too late.”
