Mount Mercy announces Master of Science in Education

New online MSEd

Mount Mercy University has announced the addition of a 10th graduate program, an online Master of Science in Education (MSEd) with a PreK-12 principal/PreK-12 special education supervisor endorsement, in response to local/regional school district needs.

"Area school administrators requested a program to 'grow their own principals,' and our new MSEd is a direct response to their feedback," said Dawn Behan, PhD, director of Mount Mercy’s graduate education programs. "COVID resulted in teachers pursuing new/different roles and an unprecedented number of early retirees in the PreK-12 education profession. So there’s an immediate need to replace principals who have retired."

The 36-credit hour program can be completed in 24 months and is designed to provide teachers with the practical skills to be an effective principal, special education supervisor or administrative leader. A minimum of two years of PreK-12 teaching experience is required.

"Mount Mercy is proud to support the needs of school districts here in eastern Iowa and across the state," Behan said. "The live online delivery benefits students near and far; they can engage with their peers and instructors virtually one night a week without the drive."

Courses begin February 6. To learn more about the MSEd, visit mtmercy.edu/msed.
