Mount Mercy University announces RN–BSN Chair

Mount Mercy University is pleased to announce Shawna Patterson MSN, RN, CMSRN as the RN-BSN Chair, assistant professor of nursing, and director of RN - BSN recruitment.

“I am excited to join the Martin-Herold College of Nursing and Health, and to provide support and guidance for advancement in nursing education,” said Patterson.

Patterson brings more than a decade of nursing experience to Mount Mercy, having previously worked as an advanced practice nurse in the acute adult division at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital. She was responsible for the development and implementation of research-based improvement plans, educational needs, and various policies and procedures.

Patterson held the positions of registered nurse supervisor, interim manager, multi-specialty supervisor, and nurse house supervisor at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital.

Patterson is a member of the following organizations:

  • Academy of Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society
  • Iowa Hospital Association - Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders
  • American Organization for Nursing Leadership
  • National League for Nursing

She was selected for the 100 Great Iowa Nurses program in 2021, underscoring her status as a leader in the field.
