2020 Sister Mary Catherine McAuley Award
Mount Mercy University graduate Annie Ertz received the Sister Mary Catherine McAuley Award during Mount Mercy’s 2020 virtual Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 17.
Ertz, a native of Linn County, Iowa, graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting, finance, and management.
This award is the highest honor given to a student who began their university career as a freshman, achieved the highest academic honors, and embodies our vision of a Mercy education focused on academic excellence, leadership, and the value of lifelong learning. The award is named for Sister Mary Catherine McAuley, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in Ireland in 1831.
Ertz was a student-athlete on the women’s cross country team, president of MMU’s nationally ranked Enactus team, a residential peer minister, and for the last two years, a resident assistant.
"It’s what Annie did beyond the classroom, from her first days on campus, that set her apart in earning this award—by personifying what it means to be a Mount Mercy graduate. Excellence," said University President Laurie Hamen during the ceremony. "Thank you, Annie, for greeting everyone with a smile, for welcoming all, no matter their walk of life—and for being a great example of academic excellence and compassionate service."
Ertz has accepted a position in Collins Aerospace’s company-wide rotation program in the finance and business area.
