Mount Mercy University moves to test optional admissions

Changing Times Call for Action

In light of the current COVID-19 crisis, Mount Mercy University has moved to test-optional admissions for students applying for Fall 2020 and Fall 2021.

National testing dates for the ACT or SAT college entrance exams in March through May were cancelled due to COVID-19.  Thus, high school junior and seniors who had signed up to take one of the tests this spring–either for the first time or for additional testing–have had their plans interrupted.

We want to be sensitive to the additional stress and anxiety COVID-19 is having on high school and college students. The university has always reviewed applicants holistically and want to be sure our policies are in the best interest of students and their college success.

Vice President for Enrollment & Marketing

“We want to be sensitive to the additional stress and anxiety COVID-19 is having on high school and college students,” said Terri Crumley, vice president for enrollment and marketing. “The university has always reviewed applicants holistically and want to be sure our policies are in the best interest of students and their college success.”

Test-optional admissions allows students to be considered for admission without submitting an ACT or SAT test score.  Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered for admission based on their high school coursework and academic record.  Students may be asked to submit supplemental information such as essays or recommendations in lieu of test scores.
