About

Associate Professor of Music Daniel Kleinknecht joined Mount Mercy in 1993.

Kleinknecht previously taught at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, and served as music director for Fort Dodge Area Symphony Orchestra in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He received degrees in music from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Indiana University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Iowa, and is listed in the International Who’s Who of Music and Musicians.

His articles have been published by the American Choral Directors’ Association and the American Choral Review.  He has conducted performances (both live and recorded) for Iowa Public Radio and Iowa Public Television.

Kleinknecht directs the Mount Mercy University Choir and leads the University's Choir and Jazz Connection spring break tours, which have included performances in New Orleans, Louisiana; New York, NY; Myrtle Beach, SC; Denver, CO; Tampa, FL; Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and Chicago, IL.

The Mount Mercy University Choir has collaborated with Orchestra Iowa’s Brucemore performances, and with the Mount Mercy University Drama Department.  He also teaches a Creativity course for the Portal curriculum at Mount Mercy.
