About

Melissa Curtis, MLIS, joined the Hill during Fall 2025 as an Information Services Librarian.

Throughout her role, Melissa helps to reference and give instructional services for the Mount Mercy community; supervises, trains, and schedules student workers; and manages the Busse Library’s technical services, such as the library system, course reserves, and interlibrary loans.

Before working at Mount Mercy, Melissa served as the Information Literacy and Student Success Librarian at Wartburg College after earning her Master of Arts in Library and Information Science. There, Melissa grew her skills and learned what kind of librarian she wanted to be: an approachable, friendly librarian who empowers students to discover what success looks like to them, both within and beyond the classroom. In addition, Melissa worked as a liaison librarian for the social sciences, journalism and communication, social work, education, and music, and frequently gave instructive sessions on a variety of topics, while managing the collections associated with those subjects. Melissa was able to closely collaborate with many student academic services and served on several institutional and faculty committees.

As Melissa continues her career journey, specific areas that interest her are instruction, first generation students, student success, personal librarianship. Get to know more about Melissa by stopping by Busse Library during office hours!
