About

Currently teaching in American politics, comparative politics, international relations, law, and political theory, Dr. Richard Barrett joined Mount Mercy in 2016 as Assistant Professor of Political Science and became Associate Professor of Political Science in 2021.

Since graduating from Yale Law School, Richard has worked in each branch of the federal government: clerking for a federal judge, practicing as a trial attorney at the Department of Justice, and writing speeches in the U.S. Senate. He obtained his PhD in Political Science in 2014. He has lived in seven U.S. states, spent time in France, Italy, and Greece, and has traveled to some unusual countries including Lithuania, Guinea (Conakry), the United Arab Emirates, and Georgia (the former Soviet Republic). Richard speaks French, reads ancient Greek, and knows a little Georgian, Malinke, and Khmer.
