Writing Specialist

St. Ambrose University at the Mount Mercy campus in Cedar Rapids, IA invites applications for a Part-Time Writing Specialist to join our dynamic academic support team in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). This role provides direct writing and English language literacy support to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and group writing support to students at the Mount Mercy campus, focusing on both foundational and assignment-specific writing skills.
  • Collaborate with faculty to tailor writing assistance to course-specific needs and academic standards.
  • Assist in designing and implementing academic support programs based on best practices and current research in writing instruction.
  • Support the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of Peer Educator Writing Tutors (student employees).
  • Partner with department staff to ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and productive environment for all ACE visitors, including prospective students.
  • Availability for occasional evening and/or weekend hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field required.
  • Experience providing writing support in a higher education setting strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
