Lab Coordinator

Position Summary

St. Ambrose University at the Mount Mercy campus located in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Lab Coordinator to support the daily operations of our Natural and Applied Sciences department, teaching and research laboratories. The Lab Coordinator will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure that laboratory activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up, and dismantle laboratory equipment and materials for instructional and research activities.
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies, chemicals, and equipment as needed.
  • Monitor and enforce lab safety protocols; provide safety training and guidance to students and staff.
  • Oversee proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, coordinate repairs and calibrations as necessary.
  • Teach up to 6 contact hours of Biology courses, per Department need.
  • Supervise and train student workers.
  • Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.

Key Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science) or a related field.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and chemical hygiene practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
