English, Creative Writing, Diversity Studies
Haley Weideman added a diversity studies minor to learn how best to represent marginalized voices in a classroom.
Our BA in Justice, Diversity, & Gender Studies is interdisciplinary by design, incorporating courses from from the humanities and social sciences in three areas: Gender Studies, Diversity & the Human Experience, and Community-Based Justice & Changemaking.
The Justice, Diversity, & Gender Studies teaches students to understand how social locations impact our lives, to analyze intersecting oppressions related to human difference, and to examine just action for social change.
Studying diversity also opens your eyes to a lot of social inequalities that aren’t talked about. In my career, I hope to expand what’s being taught to include more marginalized voices.
The Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies curriculum challenges socially constructed realities and systems of injustice, while celebrating contributions from a diversity of perspectives. Students in this program emerge as creative, ethical leaders prepared to serve in a multitude of contexts.
