It’s about the community. Creative Corridor businesses work closely with Mount Mercy students, offering internships that enrich career opportunities. Internships are highly encouraged and offer invaluable real-world experience. Many local employers recognize the valuable contributions MMU accounting students provide and seek our students for priority placement within regularly available positions.

Honoring Mount Mercy’s value of compassionate service, accounting students are involved in community outreach programs such as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free taxpayer assistance to low-income individuals.

Careers in Accounting

Our graduates are in demand by many local employers.

Accounting majors often pursue Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status and the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. Common career paths include tax research or tax preparation, auditing, management, and cost accounting-related positions. Mount Mercy accounting graduates have gone on to work for companies like RSM McGladrey, Rockwell-Collins, AEGON/Transamerica, Great America Leasing, GE Capital, Alliant Energy, Toyota Financial Services and the Internal Revenue Service.

Mount Mercy has an articulation agreement with the University of Iowa's Master of Accountancy program to facilitate the admission of Mount Mercy graduates into that program. First year graduates report a median starting salary ranging from $40,000-45,000*. Graduates from Mount Mercy are currently working at:
