As a Catholic Mercy Institution of higher education, we uphold the inherent dignity and worth of all people. In accordance with our mission and Mercy values, the Center for the Common Good works to promote formation of mercy-oriented and justice-seeking people who can collaborate with our local and global partners. Mount Mercy produces graduates who are responsible leaders in their communities and who advocate for systems that advance the Common Good.

Mount Mercy's Center for the Common Good ensures that everyone feels safe in their identity and welcome and engaged on campus. We advocate, consult, provide guidance, and work across campus and community resources to ensure Mercy hospitality extends to all people on our campus. We affirm all people as persons. We denounce all acts of hatred and seek to build opportunity for all.

Bias Policy

We are committed to ensuring that our campus community is a safe place where all students thrive. Our policy is to ensure we robustly safeguard our mission and values throughout campus, which includes our faculty, staff, student body, and invited guests. There is zero tolerance for any acts of aggression, discrimination, name-calling, or prejudice.

Critical Concerns Committee

The Sisters of Mercy were founded out of a deep concern for the needs of the poor and disadvantaged. Today, the Sisters of Mercy focus their ministry on those needs identified through their Critical Concerns—earth, immigration, nonviolence, anti-racism, and women.

The Critical Concerns Committee promotes the university’s collective efforts to:

Grow as a community by actively recruiting student populations that represent our campus, city, country, and world.

Create productive, meaningful encounters with differing perspectives in a welcoming environment.

Ensure the success and safety of all individuals on campus, including those with marginalized identities, varying economic status, and abilities.

Develop programs, services, and initiatives that help educate, support, and engage the campus in social justice and compassion.
