Laurie M. Hamen, J.D., is a higher education veteran with over 30 years of experience in student affairs, enrollment management, athletics, academics and grant procurement. She became Mount Mercy University’s ninth president in February 2014.

President Hamen holds a Juris Doctorate degree from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois. She has completed Ph.D. coursework in educational administration at the University of Minnesota and holds a Master of Science degree from Winona State University. Committed to the value of a Catholic, liberal-arts education, she also holds an undergraduate degree from the University of St. Catherine in Saint Paul, Minnesota. 

She is married to Bill Hamen, has three grown children and seven grandchildren.

Vice President for Mission & Ministry

Sr. Linda Bechen was appointed vice president for mission and ministry in January 2018. She supervises the Office of Campus Ministry, collaborates with faculty and staff to foster the institution’s mission and identity, and works to infuse and integrate the vision of the founding Sisters of Mercy into all aspects of campus life and ministry. Prior to MMU, Sr. Linda ministered as the parish life coordinator at St. Patrick in Anamosa, Iowa, and the North Linn Catholic Cluster (St. Stephen, Central City, Iowa; St. John, Coggon, Iowa; and St. Joseph, Prairieburg, Iowa). She has also ministered in several Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa parishes as a pastoral associate and educator.

Vice President for Enrollment & Marketing

Terri oversees Mount Mercy’s undergraduate, graduate, international, and music recruiting and admissions teams as well as the marketing and communications team. She has a diverse higher education background including admissions, teaching, development, and research administration. Prior to joining MMU in 2013, she served at UW–Stevens Point, Central College, the University of Iowa, and the Juilliard School. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Central College and master's and doctorate in music from the University of Iowa.

Vice President for Business & Finance

Anne joined Mount Mercy in 2018 and oversees the fiscal integrity and strength of the institution and its business operations. With over 20 years of higher education experience, she was previously the campus/market president for Kaplan University’s Indianapolis campus and also held several leadership roles at the University of Phoenix. Anne received her MBA and BBA from the University of Iowa.

Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations

Brenda joined Mount Mercy in April 2015 and is responsible for all fundraising and alumni relations efforts including the annual fund, major gifts, capital gifts, and grants. Brenda is a 1996 graduate of Mount Mercy, with a bachelor's in business administration. She also has a certified fund raising executive credential.

Vice President for Student Success

Nate leads Mount Mercy's Student Services team (including residence life, student engagement, counseling, and health services) in addition to MMU athletics and career services. He also serves as an assistant professor of business and Enactus team advisor. Prior to MMU, he spent seven years with Aflac and has experience in various industries, including Best Buy, Junior Achievement, the Arc of East Central Iowa, and General Mills in Cedar Rapids. Nate is a 2007 Mount Mercy graduate and received his MBA from Emory University and EdD from Creighton University.

Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs

Tim joined Mount Mercy in June 2018 and oversees MMU’s faculty and academic operations including undergraduate and graduate programs, the registrar’s office, library services, the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), and institutional research and data. Prior to MMU, he served the University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana and Lynchburg College in Virginia. Tim holds an EdD from Ball State University, a master’s in athletics training from the University of Arizona, and a bachelor’s in athletic training/health education from Indiana University.
