About

Assistant Professor of Psychology Alexander Toftness has always been interested in learning more about the psychology of humans and non-humans-leading to his career.

Toftness joined Mount Mercy University in 2023. Some of his courses include Health Psychology, Biological Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, and Cognitive Psychology.

Toftness writes poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. His most well-known book is Incredible Consequences of Brain Injury: The Ways Your Brain Can Break, published by Routledge in 2022.

When he is not writing or teaching classes, he works as a science communicator online and at live events.

While working on the Hill, he will be pursuing his interest in the psychology of learning in a college setting and individual cognitive differences stemming from acquired brain injuries. He is also interested in non-human intelligence, such as animals, plants, and artificial intelligence.

Outside of Toftness’s career, his passions include humor/comedy and multimedia projects, including video and audio.
