Mount Mercy gave so much to me during my time on the Hill that I wanted to give back! Being a member of the Alumni Board is a great way to do that. Plus, I get to network, meet new people, and hear their Mount Mercy story. This campus is changing daily, and it’s great to come back and embrace the growth and vision of Mount Mercy University.

I appreciate the excellent education, career opportunities, and relationships that I developed while earning my degrees from Mount Mercy. By serving on the Alumni Board, I can observe how that quality is continuing for future generations. Through the Alumni Board, many volunteer opportunities are available. I can get back on campus and work with current/future students to ensure they have the same “service to community” based education that I was able to receive. In addition, serving on the board gives me confidence when I am hiring a Mount Mercy graduate, knowing they have been through a top notch program. Not only did I walk in their shoes, but I have observed at board meetings how the path has changed.

I joined the Alumni Board because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of MMU students and alumni. I really enjoyed my three years at Mount Mercy as a transfer student. I have continued to have friendships and relationships through the Alumni Board and being involved with events and programs too.

Mount Mercy gave me so much during my time on the mount as a college student. Being on the Alumni Board has given me several opportunities over the years to serve the University by working with students, faculty, and staff. I had a wonderful experience as a non-traditional student at MMU. I enjoy serving on the board and sharing the Mount Mercy story to clients, colleagues, and prospective students. The diverse backgrounds and experience of the alumni board members offers insight to me, both personally and professionally.

When I first returned to Cedar Rapids after law school, I felt a strong desire to give back to the college that gave me so much. In this role, I value the opportunity to stay connected to MMU in a meaningful way, learn from and connect with other fellow alums, and lend my experiences and ideas to help the University continue to grow and succeed.

I attended Mount Mercy University from 1977 to 1979. My major in Biology and minor in Chemistry gave me a solid foundation for my varied career path. I spent 10 years in food production companies (Nabisco Brands and Frito Lay) starting in the quality control lab and working my way up through various management positions. In 1989, I joined Northern Illinois University as the Laboratory Manger for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and recently retired in February of 2018. Retirement has given me the time to give back to the university that prepared me for my professional life’s work. It has been a pleasure to return back to my foundation with my work on the Alumni Board.

Mount Mercy has a great story, and I love to continue to help share it. Not only the education, which was amazing, but the relationships and community outreach that I have had the chance to be part of through Mount Mercy have been wonderful. I love to come back to campus and continue to be around such a great community.

Mount Mercy helped me get the education I needed to obtain the job I love now. I couldn't think of a better way to give back to my alma mater, than to be a part of the Alumni Board. I hope to encourage fellow alumni to give back and be forever connected with Mount Mercy.
