Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling approximately 1850 students. The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

Mount Mercy University is seeking candidates to fill the position of Web Developer/ System Administrator within the Information Technology Department. This position reports to the Co-Director of IT and is a full-time, exempt position.


Strategic Planning

  1. Develops goals and strategies based on interactions with primary users
  2. Develops a plan for software deployment
  3. Collaborates and partners with users to develop workflow and best practices


  1. Project management for web enhancements
  2. Collaborates internally and externally with vendors
  3. Responsive to internal customers
  4. Creates and maintains code documentation
  5. Evaluates feature/upgrade/change requests and recommends action plans
  6. Identifies and corrects database and software performance issues


  1. Meets with business analyst/stakeholder to determine requirements
  2. Researches and develops new algorithms and statistical techniques designed for analyzing data based on customer needs
  3. Develops and maintains software infrastructure, via patches, bundles, releases, and maintenance packs
  4. Codes software applications adhering to designs supporting internal business requirements or external user
  5. Designs databases and data structures
  6. Prioritizes tasks within projects
  7. Opens tickets with vendors


  1. A clear commitment to an understanding of the University’s mission
  2. Ability to prioritize and deal with several tasks concurrently, while maintaining flexibility, high energy, creativity, and attention to detail
  3. Infrastructure experience and ability to work with SQL/MySQL needed
  4. Understands programming languages and frameworks, such as PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, etc.
  5. Experience managing all aspects of a successful project throughout its lifecycle from conception to launch, and process documentation skills
  6. Experience with quality assurance testing
  7. Experience in software development and/or design
  8. Proficiency with MS Windows, Linux, OSX operating systems
  9. Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS, Web User Interface Design, and Web Services
  10. Experience in Agile development processes, methodologies, and tools
  11. Strong communication, customer service, and time management skills 


  1. A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field from an accredited institution preferred 
  2. Other combinations of relevant experience and education that meet the job requirements may be substituted


  1. A minimum of 3 years of relevant Information Technology work experience and training is required
  2. Technical computer skills along with complex information systems implementation and maintenance experience required
  3. Strong Microsoft background, familiarity with Active Directory and Google Search Console (formerly Web Master Tools) preferred
  4. Familiar with EMS and third-party integration preferred i.e. building program finders
  5. Content management system experience working with Cascade preferred
  6. Experience working with a college or university setting helpful
