Associate Professor of Business Bob Walker joined the Mount Mercy community in 2009. He also serves as the Business Department Chair. Walker earned his Ph.D. in Education from Iowa State University and his MBA degree with a concentration in finance from The University of Iowa. Walker has over 18 years banking experience throughout Iowa and Ohio, serving as executive director of the East Central Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. He was also the owner of Walker Associates, and worked at Kirkwood Community College for nine years as an associate professor and as a degree coordinator. He and his wife Kristy have just completed a Personal Finance textbook, which will be published in 2012 by McGraw Hill Companies.

Walker was the recipient of the ACBSP (Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs) Teaching Excellence Award in 2006. In both 2004 and 2009, he received the Outstanding Male Advisor to a Club or Organization award at Kirkwood Community College. He was recently published in New Directions for Community Colleges regarding the outlook on business and other related fields for community college students. He is currently researching the effects of required internships on business students in relation to persistence, retention, GPA, and degree completion.

For two years, Walker has served as commissioner for the ACBSP, as well as a Sam Walton Fellow of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). From 2002-2009, he served as Kirkwood's coordinator for the Walt Disney College Program, which gives students an opportunity to earn a variety of internships at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts and Theme Parks. He continues to promote the Disney College Program to Mount Mercy students.

In his spare time, Walker enjoys spending time with his family. He has a wife, Kristy, three children, and two grandchildren. His oldest son, Nathan, is currently stationed in Italy with the U.S. Army. His daughter Erin is a second grade teacher in the Iowa City Community School district. Clay, his youngest, is attending Iowa City West High School. Walker and his wife love to travel, cook, entertain, garden, bike ride, and snow ski.
