Strong advising and faculty support, proximity to veterinarian services, and our extensive pre-veterinary medicine curriculum make Mount Mercy University ideal for any student preparing for a future in veterinary medicine.

Through Mount Mercy’s engaging curriculum, faculty-student research in cutting-edge laboratories, community and club activities, and gained experience with local veterinarians, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge you need to be successful in veterinary college — and in your chosen profession.

Students following the pre-veterinarian track typically choose between majors and minors in biology and chemistry. Double majors, or combinations of a major and minor, can easily be accomplished with a well-planned schedule and steady academic progress. Beyond core classes, students following our pre-veterinarian curriculum also take such courses as Chemistry, Animal Behavior, Genetics and Immunology.

Our award-winning faculty will help you prepare for professional placement exams (typically the GRE) and support you while you complete your applications to veterinarian medicine schools. Mount Mercy University is close to several animal hospitals and veterinary offices, making it easy to shadow veterinarians, work as a vet tech, volunteer and gain the hands-on experience that is essential to your post-undergraduate success.
