Go to law school — with any major — and the pre-law minor at Mount Mercy University.

Students pursuing law school after graduation can start with Mount Mercy's pre-law minor. A pre-law minor can be earned alongside any major at Mount Mercy and is an especially great addition for those working toward a degree in criminal justice, political science or any of the traditional law majors such as English, philosophy or history.

Mount Mercy’s pre-law program includes courses which develop strong communication and argumentation skills critical to legal practice. Students also become familiar with various aspects of the U.S. legal system throughout their studies.

Dedicated faculty are committed to providing course guidance and helping students prepare for the LSAT and apply to law school.

3+3 Partnership with the University of Iowa

Mount Mercy’s agreement with the University of Iowa College of Law allows undergraduate students to earn both their bachelor’s and law degrees in just six years, rather than the usual seven. You can learn more about the 3+3 program.

Mount Mercy graduates from our pre-law program have found professional success, becoming:

  • County Attorneys
  • Private Attorneys
  • Chief of State Public Defender (Cedar Rapids)

“Students interested in pursuing a legal education will be able to develop skills that will help them succeed in law school. Those who are not necessarily interested in pursuing a law career will also benefit from the minor's focus on writing, critical analysis and reflection on the impact of laws on their own rights and well-being.”
