Dr. Timothy Laurent began as provost and vice president for academic affairs in June 2018. He leads Mount Mercy University’s faculty and academic units, including undergraduate and graduate programs, the registrar’s office, library services, institutional research, and the Academic Center for Excellence.

A career-long athletic training educator, Dr. Laurent served as a tenured faculty member and department chair at Lynchburg College and on the athletic training education faculty at Ball State University, University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, and Winona State University (Minnesota). In addition, he owned his own health and fitness firm from 2001 to 2007.

As a researcher and scholar, Dr. Laurent authored over 100 publications, presentations, and grant proposals, and served on more than 50 committees and task forces. He also mentored numerous students as they presented their research in local, state, and regional forums.

After receiving his bachelor’s in athletic training/health education from Indiana University in 1987, Dr. Laurent earned his master’s in athletic training from the University of Arizona in 1989, and a doctorate in education administration from Ball State University (Indiana) in 2000.

Dr. Tom Castle oversees Mount Mercy's growing adult accelerated programs and graduate programs.

Dr. Castle came to Mount Mercy in 1990 and served as associate professor, department chair, and dean before his current role as associate provost and executive director for academic innovation. Before coming to Mount Mercy, Dr. Castle served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa and worked as a marketing consultant. He is an active member of the Commission for Accelerated Programs.

In 2008, he developed and directed Mount Mercy's accelerated MBA program for working adults, and he continues to provide direction for all adult-focused and off-campus initiatives.

In 2016 he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Council for Accelerated Programs for his extensive work with managing and teaching adult students. He regularly speaks at adult-student conferences, conducts webinars, and consults with other adult-focused programs across the country.

Dr. Castle earned his BBA, MBA, and PhD from the University of Iowa.
