Mount Mercy University will host Photographer José Galvez on Monday, Oct. 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room as he presents his multi-media lecture “Aquí Estamos – Here We Are.” Documenting the Latino population in the United States for 40 years, Galvez combines photo presentations with lectures on various topics from the impact of César Chávez and the Chicano movement to recent Latino immigration in southern portions of the United States.

Starting today, Mount Mercy University’s Olson Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic (located at 1650 Matterhorn Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids) will offer free counseling services to community members affected by the flood. Services are available during the clinic’s regular business hours: Monday-Friday, noon to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. The clinic will be open Monday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday Sept. 27 despite class cancellations on those days.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Sept. 25, 2016) – Mount Mercy University has cancelled all classes for Monday, Sept. 26, and Tuesday, Sept. 27. Further cancellations, if necessary, will be announced Monday. At this time classes are expected to resume a normal schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The two-day cancellation will limit student, faculty and staff impact on local road ways, as requested by public safety officials. It will also allow volunteers extra time to assist with flood response in Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities.

The public is invited to attend mass at Mount Mercy’s Chapel of Mercy Sunday, Sept. 25, 8:30 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 26, at 11:45 a.m. to pray for the safety of those affected by the flood. The chapel will also be open to the public from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday, to allow additional time for prayers and support. For more information on Mount Mercy’s flood response, visit
