Mount Mercy University junior Jamie Civitate, from Des Moines, Iowa, placed third in the U.S. Cellular's 2010 Speed Text Tournament, a traveling competition to find the fastest texters in the nation. Civitate, a biology major, placed third among thousands of competitors, winning a $500 gift card to U.S. Cellular's Coralville retail store. Civitate finished first in last year's inaugural competition, winning a $10,000 gift card.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy dominated the paint and the perimeter in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Thursday night at Hennessey Recreation Center, defeating Viterbo (Wis.) for the second time in less than a week, 66-48, to earn a berth in Saturday's MCC semifinals. The Mount Mercy Times, a student-run publication, won 11 awards at the annual Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) Better Newspaper contest during the ICMA and concurrent Iowa Newspaper Association annual conventions. This represents the most awards ever won during the ICMA competition by The Mount Mercy Times, breaking last year's record of eight awards.
