Mount Mercy University will host a benefit concert to raise money for Fresh Start Prison Ministry on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Mount Mercy’s Chapel of Mercy. The concert will feature Mount Mercy’s University Choir, Jazz Connection, Madrigal Singers and Handbell Ensemble. The Linn County Correctional Chaplaincy Ministry reaches out to local correctional facilities to offer spiritual guidance and weekly worship services to inmates, family members and facilities staff members. The ministry is partnered with local churches and businesses around Linn County.

Mount Mercy University's CRST International Graduate Center has been selected, for the second year in a row, to host John Maxwell’s powerful Live2Lead simulcast leadership conference on Oct. 9., 7:45 a.m.–1:30 p.m. This event, sponsored by ActionCOACH Heartland, will equip eastern Iowans with new leadership tactics and tools to assist in becoming leaders in the workplace by live broadcasting nationally renowned speakers on the topic of leadership. Live2Lead will broadcast from Atlanta to more than 300 locations in 20 varying countries.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, volunteers from the Mound View Neighborhood Association, Coe College and Mount Mercy University will gather in Central Park at 16th Street NE and B Avenue NE from 1 until 3 p.m. to join in a community cleanup project followed by fun in the park.

Mount Mercy University will take time to celebrate the Catholic heritage of the university and Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, during Mercy and Mission Week, Sept. 20-26. The week-long series of events will feature the Sisters of Mercy as they visit classrooms to help connect their critical concerns—immigration, nonviolence, racism, women and earth—to classroom teachings.

Constitution day is Thursday, September 17. In honor of our American heritage, Mount Mercy pauses to reflect on the rights and privileges we all enjoy - including the Bill of Rights, considered the rights held most dear by Americans. But do we know them well enough to remember them? With a nod to our Founding Fathers and in honor of Constitution Day, below you'll find the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution, referred to as the Bill of Rights:

Mount Mercy University will welcome alumni back to campus for Alumni Reunion Weekend, Sept. 18–20. The weekend is designed to celebrate the campus community that was once home to alumni. Various events and activities will take place including the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, Alumni Awards Luncheon, Alumni Reunion Mass, Service and Spirit Day, and more.

The Moving Wall, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall located in Washington, D.C., will be on display at Mount Mercy University from 5 p.m., Sept. 17, to noon, Sept. 21. An opening ceremony for the Wall will be held at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17.

Mount Mercy will kick off MMUPostSecret, a campus-wide creative project, on Friday, Sept. 11, from 4-7 p.m. in Betty Cherry Hall. The project is in line with PostSecret, an ongoing national art project that allows people to mail in their secrets anonymously on side of a postcard to be displayed on the web.
