To celebrate the fall inauguration of President Laurie Hamen, Mount Mercy University has partnered with Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity (CVHFH) to construct three new Cedar Rapids homes. As announced in December, Mount Mercy faculty, staff and students will provide labor for CVHFH Youth United and Pope Francis Build projects.

On January 17, Mount Mercy University graduate students will board a plane bound for the Central American country of Belize. Nineteen students from the Master of Business Administration and Master of Strategic Leadership programs—the largest graduate group Mount Mercy has sent since the program was implemented in 2013—are journeying nearly 2,000 miles to help small businesses grow.

Eight teaching students from Canterbury Christ Church University in the United Kingdom are visiting Mount Mercy during January. While here, they will visit three local schools, Arthur Elementary, Garfield Elementary and St. Matthew Catholic Elementary, to observe teaching and classroom management in the United States.

Mount Mercy University’s Enactus team has received two grants that will allow them to grow the EmpowHer project, a partnership with the Catherine McAuley Center aimed at teaching women the skills needed to find employment. “We have been working with the Catherine McAuley Center on the EmpowHer project for three years now,” said Enactus President Julia Cuvelier. “This is a project that we do every year with the ladies to help them gain the skills and confidence that they need to go out into the working world and be able to do the best that they can.”

Mount Mercy’s finance major has been granted the status of a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Recognized University Program, becoming one of only three institutions in Iowa to hold this prestigious distinction. The CFA Institute is a global association of investment professionals located in Charlottesville, Virginia with over 123,000 members.
