INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- When the first round was over, they were in seventh place and trailed the leaders by eight strokes. One round later, 21st-ranked Mount Mercy skipped all the way to the top of the leaderboard to claim the team title at the NAIA Classic at the Brickyard Crossing.

Sister Karen Schneider has been selected as the keynote speaker for Mount Mercy’s University’s commencement ceremony to be held on May 17 at 1 p.m. at the US Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids. Serving as both physician and assistant professor of pediatric emergency medicine at Johns Hopkins University Children’s Center as well as a Sister of Mercy, Sister Karen works to improve children’s health in the United States and around the world.

Since 2005, Associate Provost Tom Castle has been an important member of the Council for Accelerated Programs (CAP), a professional network for higher education institutions offering accelerated formats. After serving in various positions, Castle became CAP president in 2013, taking on a leadership role in advocating for accelerated programs around the country.

Students in one of Mount Mercy University’s accelerated marketing courses practiced their craft and pitched a marketing plan to the owner of Hot Harry’s, a burrito restaurant on Cedar Rapids’ northeast side. Students Eric Tupper, Breanna Reed, Nicholas Berry and Alyssa Hilby met with the restaurant’s owner, Ken Halm, on March 10. Halm was excited to have Mount Mercy’s students and was impressed with their depth of understanding.

Mount Mercy University is pleased to announce Brenda Duello as vice president for development and alumni relations. A 1996 Mount Mercy graduate, Duello holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a certified fund raising executive (CFRE) credential. Duello comes to Mount Mercy from The University of Iowa where she served in development leadership roles for 11 years.
