Rockwell Collins CEO Clay Jones delivered a forward-thinking message about globalization at the third annual Presidential Lecture Series at Mount Mercy University on March 20. In his speech, “Globalization: The Good, the Bad, and the Undeniable,” Jones spoke of the competitive global economy and said in order to have a competitive edge it’s time for the country, the state, and the region to raise its standards.

Marissa Butler ’07 has been named campus minister at Mount Mercy University. Butler will work as part of the Mission and Ministry Team, which includes the Office of Mercy Mission and Identity, Campus Ministry, Chaplain and Volunteerism and Service Learning. She will provide a positive impact on the Mount Mercy campus and help maintain the university’s commitment to its Catholic heritage, the Sisters of Mercy, and the common good.

Mount Mercy University students in the Emerging Leaders Program are coordinating a community-wide fundraiser to benefit local non-profit organizations. Dubbed “Hunger Night,” Mount Mercy has partnered with local restaurants to donate a percentage of revenue earned on Thursday, April 12, to area non-profits.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- For the second time this season, a Mount Mercy baseball standout has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Week. Junior third baseman Jacob Thompson picked up the league honor for March 12 after batting .455 in three games for the Mustangs.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- For the fifth straight game, a tight contest would be determined by the team that could make plays down the stretch. In most of those, it was Mount Mercy coming through. But in Saturday's quarterfinal, Briar Cliff was able to pull away late and advance to the semifinals of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship with an 81-76 victory over the Mustangs at the Tyson Events Center.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- After celebrating its first national tournament win since 1995 on Wednesday night, 12th-ranked Mount Mercy advanced to the Elite Eight for the fifth time in six national tournament appearances, knocking off fifth-ranked Morningside, 79-72, in front of an estimated 3,000 fans in the second round of the 21st Annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship on Friday at the Tyson Events Center.

As a campus that celebrates and cherishes its mission to foster environmentally-conscious individuals, Mount Mercy continues to go green through a variety of earth-friendly campaigns. The campus is currently competing to be the greenest campus in the nation through the RecycleMania challenge, in which colleges and universities across the country participate over an eight-week period to see which campus is able to decrease the amount of waste and recycle the most material.
