Mount Mercy University welcomed Dr. Christine Pharr on Thursday, September 27, as the keynote speaker for Mercy Day during Mercy and Mission Week activities at Mount Mercy. Pharr is the vice president for academic affairs at College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Neb.

Mount Mercy University has been awarded a $5,330 grant that will help bring over 20 new trees on campus as part of a project to enhance the university's sustainability efforts. Made possible by the Branching Out program through Alliant Energy and Trees Forever, 10 of the new trees will replace storm-damaged trees. A tree planting ceremony will be held on campus Thursday, October 4, at 2:30 p.m. on the Basile Hall patio.

Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will display the works from the collection of Paula and Tom Van Deest during a special exhibit, "The Obsessive Visionary Art of Stephen J.M. Palmer and the Sacrificial Love Society." The exhibit, free and open to the public, runs October 12 – November 9. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. A collector talk will be held on Friday, October 12, at 5:00 p.m. in Lundy Hall, Lundy 3, to celebrate the opening of this exhibit on campus.

Special events include a spotlight on alumni emergency service careers, a balloon glow, wine tasting and live band and dance. Traditional favorites will also be held including alumni games, an alumni recognition luncheon, and alumni hall of fame induction.
