Mount Mercy University invites high school students and their families to visit campus during Iowa Private College Week, July 31–Aug. 4. Prospective students will have the opportunity to tour campus, meet with professors, coaches, and current students, and learn about the university’s exciting academics and campus life.

The Mount Mercy University Students in Human Resource Management (SIHRM) club was awarded a 2016–2017 Merit Award by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its student chapter members. Of the 327 student chapters from across the United States, Mount Mercy was one of 149 winners.

Mount Mercy University was ranked highest among all Iowa colleges on MONEY magazine’s 2017 Best Colleges For Your Money list. The annual list puts Mount Mercy at No. 87 in the nation among 711 schools, 50 spots higher than in 2016. Rankings are based on 27 factors in three equally-weighted categories: educational quality, affordability, and alumni success. Mount Mercy also stood out in MONEY’s rankings for overall quality.

Mount Mercy University is pleased to announce Will Oprisko as assistant vice president and dean of students. Oprisko comes to the university from Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, where he was dean of students. He holds a bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministries from Taylor University and an M.S.Ed. in Student Affairs Administration from Indiana University.

In 2015, Reverend Anthony Adawu, lovingly known as Father Tony, became Mount Mercy’s first full-time chaplain in almost six years. His pastoral presence reinforces Mount Mercy’s Catholic tradition and Mercy charism.

(1932–2016) Sister Mary Cephas Wichman was a vowed member of the Sisters of Mercy for 66 years. Known for her generosity, kindness, and delicious scones, Sister Mary Cephas dedicated much of her career to developing relationships and raising support for education—a hallmark of the Sisters of Mercy.

Mount Mercy’s outdoor athletes have never had a home field to call their own. To simply practice and play, alternative spaces scattered throughout Cedar Rapids were rented, making it difficult for athletes to train, compete, and generate much-deserved fan enthusiasm.
