CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy University has turned to a familiar face to build one of its new programs, naming Mary Kay Van Oort the school's first-ever head men's volleyball coach, Athletic Director Scot Reisinger announced today. Van Oort's official start date will be Aug. 10.

Mount Mercy University invites high school students and their families to visit campus during Iowa Private College Week, August 3-7. Prospective students will have the opportunity to tour campus, meet with professors, coaches and current students, and learn about the university’s exciting academics and campus life. Sessions are available at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day of the week.

International students studying at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa, now have a guaranteed path to their bachelor’s degree thanks to an agreement between IHCC and Mount Mercy University. The new agreement, signed this week by Mount Mercy University President Laurie Haman, and IHCC President Dr. Marlene Sprouse, offers every international student who completes an associate degree at IHCC, a place at Mount Mercy.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- For the second year in a row, the Mount Mercy baseball program has partnered with the City of Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department to host the USSSA Youth Baseball Fall League, and Mount Mercy will also host its annual High School Fall Baseball League and Evaluation Showcase.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy teams and student-athletes put together an outstanding year on the field and in the classroom in 2014-15, counting eight NAIA Scholar-Teams, 27 NAIA-Scholar Athletes and 93 academic all-Midwest Collegiate Conference award winners.

Mount Mercy University received one of Iowa’s top spots on Money magazine’s “Best Colleges” ranking, beating out every other Iowa school in the list’s value-added category. The Time-affiliated magazine ranked Mount Mercy 147 out of 1,500 four-year colleges and named the university one of “The 50 Best Colleges That You Can Actually Get Into.” The rankings were based on 21 factors in three equally-weighted categories: educational quality, affordability and alumni earnings.

The Mount Mercy University Association of Nursing Students (MMUANS) overcame a long journey to get a resolution based on pediatric care coordination between healthcare and education systems passed at the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) annual convention this past April. In order to bring attention to a particular issue, groups must choose a resolution. The resolution is a specific topic that allows the group to analyze and find flaws with methods already in place.
