Mount Mercy University continues to expand academics this spring by offering two new undergraduate majors, a new minor and additional tracks of study.     The Department of Natural and Applied Sciences welcomes chemistry and science marketing majors in Spring 2015. “While chemistry has existed as a minor,” stated Terri Crumley, dean of admissions at Mount Mercy, “we’re pleased to transition it to a major with tracks in biochemistry and forensic science to help more students work toward their bachelor’s degrees and ultimately their careers.”

On February 23, Sr. Kathleen Erickson will visit Mount Mercy University to lecture on her experiences serving immigrants near the Mexican border. Her discussion will begin at 7 p.m. in the Flaherty Community Room, second floor Basile Hall. Sr. Kathleen has been a member of the Sisters of Mercy for nearly 50 years, focusing on the issue of immigration since 1991. Sister Kathleen opened an immigrant shelter for women and ran immersion experiences for those curious about immigration issues.

The panel will take place in Flaherty Community Room, second floor of Basile Hall. Associate Professor of Social Work April Dirks-Bihun, Ph.D. and the university’s multicultural affairs committee have organized the event in honor of Black History Month.
