The Board of Trustees at Mount Mercy University appointed Norm Nielsen, Ph.D., as the interim president. Nielsen currently serves as chair of the Buena Vista University Board of Trustees and was president of Kirkwood Community College from 1985 until he retired in 2005.

Senior Jenna Higgins won her second national title in the javelin and senior Mwale Kapande became an all-American in the long jump at the 33rd Annual NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships today at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Mount Mercy graduate Benjamin Wood '13, of Cascade, Iowa, received the Mary Catherine McAuley Award during Mount Mercy's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19. Wood studied communication studies and public relations at Mount Mercy. He is the son of Joel and Cheryl Wood.

Mount Mercy graduate Vladimir Vuković '13, of Ruma, Serbia, received the Mary Frances Warde Award during Mount Mercy's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19. The award is the highest honor given to a student who transferred into Mount Mercy and has acquired a minimum of 30 credit hours at the university. The award is conferred upon the graduate who, in addition to a high scholastic rating (3.0 or above), has exemplified to a marked degree cooperation with administration, faculty, and students; integrating in his/her personal relationships; and leadership and loyalty in furthering the ideals of Mount Mercy. The award is named for Mary Frances Warde, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in America in 1843.

Mount Mercy University held commencement exercises on Sunday, May 19, at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena for the class of 2013. Over 400 undergraduate students and 116 students in graduate programs graduated from Mount Mercy this spring.

Mount Mercy graduate Bruce Payne '13, of Hopkinton, Iowa, received the President's Award during Mount Mercy's Honors Convocation on Saturday, May 18. The President's Award is given to the graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding perseverance and diligence in pursuing his or her goals. Payne is the son of Bryan and Leann Payne and studied computer science and criminal justice at Mount Mercy.

Mount Mercy University will hold commencement exercises on Sunday, May 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, 1100 Rockford Road SW, Cedar Rapids. Mount Mercy University's Music Department will present the annual "Spring Sing" concert on Wednesday, May 8. Choir, Jazz Connection, Handbell Ensemble and Band will perform a tuneful celebration of spring at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Mercy.
