Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will showcase the capstone projects of senior art students during a Senior Thesis Exhibit April 28 – May 24. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, April 28, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Janalyn Hanson White Gallery. This event is open to the public.

Iowa Outdoors: The DNR’s Magazine of Conservation and Recreation recently featured Neil Bernstein, Ph.D., Mount Mercy University biology professor. The article profiled some of the work he and his students have done to monitor endangered yellow mud turtle populations at Big Sand Mound Nature Preserve in Muscatine.

Mount Mercy University will showcase an array of exemplary students work at Scholarship Festival on Wednesday, May 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Betty Cherry Heritage Hall and the University Center. The scholarship festival is hosted by the Mount Mercy University Honors Program and Pathways Project, and is free and open to the public; seating may be limited.

Mount Mercy University's Drama Department will present The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance May 3 - 4 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. in McAuley Theatre. The play is directed by Nich Radcliffe, drama coordinator at Mount Mercy. Tickets for the performance are $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens. Mount Mercy students and employees may receive one complimentary ticket. The event is open to the public; seating may be limited.

Mount Mercy University was recognized by GreenRU for a successful food diversion project on Tuesday, April 23. In just three months, Mount Mercy diverted 15 tons of waste from local landfills. The project is in partnership with Linn County Solid Waste Agency and GreenRU. The project was funded through grant money made available by the Solid Waste Agency's Commercial Food Scraps Recycling Pilot Project, which is open to all Linn County businesses interested in recycling food waste.

Mount Mercy University will display work from local high school students as part of the High School Art Exhibit taking place through April 26. The 38th Annual High School Art Day will take place on, Friday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. in McAuley Theatre. Muralist and children's author and illustrator Katie Yamasaki will  speak to high school students as part of the event. Yamasaki will serve as the speaker for a forum open to the public on Monday, April 29, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall.

Students, faculty and staff participated in a campus-wide evacuation on Wednesday, April 17, as part of a mock emergency drill for disaster preparedness. Mount Mercy partnered with Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids Police Department, Cedar Rapids Fire Department, and EMT response crews to conduct the drill, which was planned months in advance.

Mount Mercy University and Mercy Medical Center are partnering to conduct a mock emergency drill on Wednesday, April 17, for disaster preparedness. At 10:00 a.m., emergency crews including Cedar Rapids Police Department, Cedar Rapids Fire Department, and EMT will respond to a fictitious chemical explosion on Mount Mercy's campus. The entire Mount Mercy campus will be evacuated as emergency response crews enter the buildings.
