Mount Mercy University and OPN Architects were awarded 2012 Excellence in Energy Efficient Design at the Iowa American Institute of Architects Convention in Des Moines. The award recognizes outstanding efforts to reduce energy use. Alliant Energy recognized OPN Architects, Inc. for renovations at Mount Mercy's new University Center, which achieved a 65 percent kBTU savings. The University Center opened in the fall of 2011.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's basketball team forced 28 turnovers and went to the free throw line 39 times, but 31 percent shooting from the floor cost the Mustangs in a 73-52 loss to Ashford in non-conference action on Wednesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.

Mount Mercy University has named Catherine Shafer associate director of alumni relations. Shafer previously served as the facilities coordinator at the president's house for University of Northern Iowa, in which she planned and managed events held at the president's home. She also worked closely with the president and his wife to build relationships for the university. She holds her bachelor's degree from University of Northern Iowa.

Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will display the ceramics and sculptures of Assistant Professor of Art Andrew Casto beginning Friday, November 16, during a special exhibit: "An Exercise in Fluidity: Recent Work by Andrew Casto." The exhibit will be on display from November 16 to December 14 and is free and open to the public for viewing. Mount Mercy Professor Emeritus Jane Gilmor will share readings from her new book I'll Be Back For The Cat, a career monograph of her work as an Iowan artist, on Wednesday, November 14.
