Mount Mercy University received approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for its Quality Initiative project, Pathways to Scholarship. The university is participating in the launch of a new HLC accreditation model that includes a campus-specific improvement project, the Quality Initiative. Mount Mercy's two-year project placed special focus on energizing scholarship by encouraging faculty and student engagement in research and creative work, both individually and through collaborative teams.

Mount Mercy alumna Pamela Schmitz Delagardelle has been named president and CEO of Allen Health System effective January 1, 2013. Prior to her appointment at Allen Health System, she was the CEO of Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) in Grundy Center, Iowa, for nearly 10 years. Delagardelle is the first woman and first nurse to provide leadership as president and CEO of Allen Health System.

Mount Mercy Assistant Professor of Nursing Sharon Guthrie, Ph.D., has been named an Iowa Public Health Hero by The University of Iowa College of Public Health. The award was established to raise awareness and recognize those who have made significant impacts in the public health workforce and improved wellness and disease prevention across the state. Nominations for Public Health Heroes are submitted by peers in the Iowa public health practice community and awarded annually.

Mount Mercy University is hosting "Tales of the Season" Sunday, December 2, from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Activities will include storytelling with Steve Arnold, holiday crafts, cookie decorating and a special guest appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The event is free and open to the public.
