Mount Mercy is thrilled to announce the hiring of Steve Stickney as the new band director. Steve was previously the Director of Bands at Linn-Mar High School, where he was also co-director of the Marching Lions, directed the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band and Stage Band, and taught woodwind, brass and percussion lessons in grades 9-12.
Shakespeare Festival at Mount Mercy University

Mount Mercy will celebrate Shakespeare Festival April 22-26. The week-long fest is a unique collaboration between members of the music, English, and drama departments aimed to honor Shakespeare’s 450th birthday. Tony Nickle, adjunct faculty in the music department, started the project as a part of the Voice Recital Series, a concert series that features professional opera singers.

Three Mount Mercy University students were selected as members of the 2012 Iowa Collegiate Honor Band at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. This marks the second year Mount Mercy has participated in the honor band, which consists of players from 15 other Iowa colleges and universities. “This was a great opportunity for our students to play a collegiate program under great guest conductors and meet and mingle with band students from across the state,” said Mount Mercy Coordinator for Campus Music Gerald Kreitzer.
