Mount Mercy University’s Enactus club made it to the final competition round at the 2017 Enactus United States National Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 23. Claiming fourth place out of more than 450 teams nationwide, this is the highest ranking ever for Mount Mercy’s Enactus (formally SIFE) team—a Mount Mercy organization for 19 years.

Mount Mercy University’s Enactus club was recently nominated for a 2017 Engaged Campus Award by Iowa Campus Compact (IACC). The team was nominated in the Emerging Innovation category, which honors a recent project, program or initiative making unique and innovative contributions that demonstrate strong future potential.

Mount Mercy University will host its fourth annual Career Fair on Wednesday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Hennessey Recreation Center. Local and national business will gather for this open-to-the-public recruiting event. Employers at the fair will include ACT, Clickstop, CRST International, Four Oaks, GreatAmerica Financial Services and Mercy Medical Center, among others. Occupations represented include accounting, computer science, finance, health care, human resources, insurance, marketing, retail operations/management, sales, social services, writing/editing and more.

Mount Mercy University senior and Enactus student leader Miranda Hammes is one of 20 college students from Iowa and California selected for the first class of the new Principal Community Scholars Program. This new program from Principal Financial Group of Des Moines, Iowa is designed to encourage student leadership to meet community needs and comes with a $1,000 scholarship after completion.

Mount Mercy University was honored in October for its commitment to meaningful community service. The university made the national 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, an honor given to institutions that demonstrate relevant and meaningful service and achieve measurable impacts in the community.

With the April 18 win at regionals in Rogers, Arkansas, Mount Mercy’s Enactus team continues on to the United States National Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri, May 15–17. Congratulations, team, and bring us home another win! Enactus provides students with the opportunity to make a difference and to develop leadership skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise with the motto, “A head for business, A heart for the world.”

Mount Mercy University's Enactus club, along with support from Sam’s Club and GoDaddy, held a business case competition for local businesses to win an ecommerce website, providing an invaluable opportunity for vendors to expand their reach across the globe. The student-organized event was held in tandem with the university's second annual Market at the Mount.

Mount Mercy University’s Enactus team will head to the Aug. 15 Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers’ Market, but not for the fresh produce or handmade crafts. The group will partner with community leaders and SCORE members to provide side-by-side vendor consultations.
