As part of Mercy and Mission week activities at Mount Mercy University, Dr. Christine Pharr, vice president for academic affairs at College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Neb., will serve as the Mercy Day keynote speaker. Pharr's address, "My Conversion to a Catholic, Mercy College," will be held on Thursday, September 27, in Flaherty Community Room of Basile Hall at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; seating may be limited.

Mount Mercy University is celebrating the jubilees of seven Sisters of Mercy, representing a combined total of 425 years of service. A reception will be held in their honor on Sunday, June 10, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Convent on Mount Mercy University’s campus.

Students and staff from nine Sisters of Mercy-sponsored colleges and universities across the United States, including Mount Mercy, converged in Washington, D.C. May 20-24 to learn first-hand about advocacy from the Sisters of Mercy.

Marissa Butler ’07 has been named campus minister at Mount Mercy University. Butler will work as part of the Mission and Ministry Team, which includes the Office of Mercy Mission and Identity, Campus Ministry, Chaplain and Volunteerism and Service Learning. She will provide a positive impact on the Mount Mercy campus and help maintain the university’s commitment to its Catholic heritage, the Sisters of Mercy, and the common good.

Mount Mercy University mourns the loss of Sister Veronica Gorman, RSM, who died Friday, January 20, 2012, at age 101 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness.

Thursday evening's forum, "Follow Your Call: An Evening for Women Considering Religious Life" with Sister Katherine Hill, RSM, has been canceled. The event was scheduled for March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall.Sister Katherine, a vocation minister for the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community, was going to lead an evening of reflection and prayer, and provide resources about Mercy Association and Mercy Volunteer Corps, two service opportunities for lay women and men.

Mount Mercy University mourns the loss of Sister Mary Clementine Cashman, RSM, who passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at Mercy Hallmar Care Center in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. Services were held at the Chapel of Mercy at Mount Mercy University on Monday, October 25 at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. David Ambrosy. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements were with Stewart Baxter Funeral and Memorial Services.
