When the Pomp and Circumstance March is over and the tassels have switched sides, what happens next? Mount Mercy University and TaxACT are teaming up to educate soon-to-be college grads on the next chapter: life after graduation. “There are several things students aren’t entirely sure about when they leave the routines of college life,” stated Josie Takes, Mount Mercy alumni relations coordinator. “This day-long event is designed to help them collect valuable information before they leave Mount Mercy and enter the workforce.”

Mount Mercy graduate Benjamin Wood '13, of Cascade, Iowa, received the Mary Catherine McAuley Award during Mount Mercy's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19. Wood studied communication studies and public relations at Mount Mercy. He is the son of Joel and Cheryl Wood.

Mount Mercy graduate Vladimir Vuković '13, of Ruma, Serbia, received the Mary Frances Warde Award during Mount Mercy's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19. The award is the highest honor given to a student who transferred into Mount Mercy and has acquired a minimum of 30 credit hours at the university. The award is conferred upon the graduate who, in addition to a high scholastic rating (3.0 or above), has exemplified to a marked degree cooperation with administration, faculty, and students; integrating in his/her personal relationships; and leadership and loyalty in furthering the ideals of Mount Mercy. The award is named for Mary Frances Warde, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in America in 1843.

Mount Mercy University held commencement exercises on Sunday, May 19, at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena for the class of 2013. Over 400 undergraduate students and 116 students in graduate programs graduated from Mount Mercy this spring.

Mount Mercy University will hold commencement exercises on Sunday, May 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, 1100 Rockford Road SW, Cedar Rapids. Mount Mercy will graduate 406 undergraduate students and 116 students in graduate programs. Sister Jean Evans, R.S.M., D.Th., of the West Midwest community of the Sisters of Mercy will serve as the commencement speaker.

Mount Mercy University has announced that Gary Hirshberg, President and CEO of Stonyfield Farm and Chairman of Climate Counts, will serve as the University's Commencement speaker during the graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Mount Mercy’s two highest awards for graduates were presented during the 2010 Commencement ceremony, held on Sunday, May 23: The Mary Catherine McAuley Award and the Mary Frances Warde Award. The McAuley Award is the highest honor given to a student who has attended Mount Mercy for four years. The Warde Award is the highest honor given to a student who transferred to Mount Mercy. The President’s Award, given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding perseverance and diligence in pursuing his or her goals, was given during the Honor’s Convocation on Saturday, May 22.

Mount Mercy has announced today that Terry Waite, humanitarian, hostage negotiator, and author of Taken on Trust, will serve as the institution’s Commencement speaker during the graduation ceremony May 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center. The title of Waite’s address to graduates is, “The Power of the Human Spirit: Turning Misfortune into Positive Action.”
