The Mount Mercy College art gallery will exhibit the work of artists Jude Tallichet and Matt Freedman March 12 – April 22 during a Super Bowl re-enactment installation titled “Bar Menard” at the Janalyn Hanson White Gallery on the Mount Mercy College campus. An artist lecture with guest speaker Joy Sperling, associate professor at Denison University, will be held March 12 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Busse library viewing room, with an opening reception in the Gallery starting at 6:00 p.m.

Mount Mercy College will welcome acclaimed essayist and poet Michael Dennis Browne for a special poetry Q&A and musical performance titled “Words and Music,” on February 25. The Q&A begins at 3:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall, and the special musical performance with the Mount Mercy College Choir begins at 7:30 in Stello Performance Hall, Warde Hall.

Mount Mercy College will welcome acclaimed Planet of the Blind author, poet and essayist Stephen Kuusisto during a special Q&A and reading titled “The Secret Lives of Eavesdroppers: A Nonfiction and Poetry Reading,” on Thursday, February 11. The Q&A starts at 3:30 p.m. and the reading starts at 7:30 p.m. Both events take place in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall, and are free and open to the public.

Saxophone Artist Ray Blue will perform a special celebratory concert titled “Music of Change” on Monday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Stello Performance Hall, Warde Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Mount Mercy College art department is currently exhibiting the work of Adjunct Art Professor Ben Jensen during an exhibit titled, “Sameness” at the Janalyn Hanson White Gallery on the Mount Mercy College campus. The exhibit runs through February 10. An artist talk will be held on February 5 at 4:00 p.m. in the Busse Library Viewing Room, with a reception immediately following at 5:00 in the Janalyn Hanson White Gallery.

Mount Mercy College will present the work of Artist Kenneth Hall during a special exhibit titled, “Between Here and There: Painting and the Unseen,” February 12 – March 3 in the Janalyn Hanson White Gallery on the Mount Mercy campus. An artist talk will be held February 12 at 4:00 p.m. in the Busse Library viewing room, with an artist reception immediately following at 5:00 in the Janalyn Hanson White Gallery.

The Mount Mercy College Choir and Jazz Connection presented a ceremony of traditional readings and carols of the season on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. The concert took place in Stello Performance Hall, Warde Hall, and was free and open to the public. The choir performed Psallite by Michael Praetorius, Carol of the Candle by Stephen Paulus, My Dancing Day, arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, Sing We All Noel, arranged by Gary Parks, and Christmas Day by Gustav Holst.

Mount Mercy Professor of Art Jane Gilmor will showcase her newest art exhibit, “The Architecture of Migration: I’ll be Back for the Cat,” at Humanities Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. The exhibit will run November 12 through December 18, 2009.

Mount Mercy will welcome special guests Linda and Robert Scarth, Cedar Rapids photographers, during a special community wide book club held on Wednesday, November 11 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.The book clubs, sponsored by Mount Mercy’s Busse Library, meet monthly in Mount Mercy’s Busse Center, and are free and open to the public.
