Students in Mount Mercy University’s graduate-level Health Advocacy: Leadership & Management class, taught by Dr. Elaine Cook, and Health Promotion/Disease Prevention class, taught be Dr. Julie Shaw, hosted an educational event in early November aimed at teaching community members struggling with addiction how to live a healthier lifestyle.

Master of Science in Nursing Program Director Sharon Guthrie was recognized with the distinguished Teresa E. Christy Award from the Iowa Nurses Association on Oct. 14. Presented to a registered nurse who has demonstrated professional commitment to improving health care, the award also recognizes the recipient’s commitment to the interrelationship of nursing education, nursing practice and nursing research.

Eight Mount Mercy alums and one faculty member were named to 100 Great Iowa Nurses this spring. The annual 100 Great Iowa Nurses event, in its ninth year of honoring nurses, recognizes the contributions these professionals make to their field while demonstrating courage, competence, and commitment to patients.

Mount Mercy University has announced an additional information session for potential students interested its graduate program in nursing and the new track in Nursing Administration.

Mount Mercy University is offering information sessions about its graduate programs in October and November. Graduate programs available include Master of Business Administration, Master of Marriage and Family Therapy, Master of Science in Nursing, and Master of Arts in Education. Classes are held on weeknights and/or Saturdays, accommodating busy, working adults.

Mount Mercy University is proud to announce a new Nurse Faculty Loan program for graduate nursing students seeking a career as a nursing faculty member. Students enrolled in Mount Mercy’s Master of Science in Nursing program in the Education Track are eligible to receive a low interest loan that will be forgiven upon obtaining a teaching position at any post-secondary institution.

Six Mount Mercy alums have been named one of the "100 Great Iowa Nurses" for 2012. This year's honorees from Mount Mercy include: Carol James Haendler '81, of Cedar Rapids, employed at St. Luke's Hospital; Janet Allie Hosking '96, of Cedar Rapids, employed by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; Deborah Rathbun Kohler '98, of Marion, employed at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; Carolyn Gagnon March '98, of Marion, employed at Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids; Sarah Schumacher Ryan '03, of Dubuque, employed at Finley Hospital; and Kathy Takes Schneider '80, of West Burlington, employed at Burlington Community School District.
