Congratulations to Mount Mercy University band members (left to right) Makayla Zweigart (euphonium), Collin Wiley (trumpet), Cody Howard (french horn), Josh Cole-Brodnax (bassoon), and Tabitha Halferty (flute) for being accepted to participate in the 23rd Annual Iowa Collegiate Honor Band.   The select honor band event will take place November 18-19 in the Josephine Tope Community Auditorium in Nevada, Iowa, and be under the direction of Dr.

Mount Mercy is thrilled to announce the hiring of Steve Stickney as the new band director. Steve was previously the Director of Bands at Linn-Mar High School, where he was also co-director of the Marching Lions, directed the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band and Stage Band, and taught woodwind, brass and percussion lessons in grades 9-12.

The Mount Mercy University Handbell Ensemble will perform a special Christmas concert on Sunday, December 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Memories at Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The Mount Mercy University Women’s Choir will perform alongside Orchestra Iowa and other local choirs during Brucemore’s “Brucemorechestra” on Saturday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Brucemore. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. The performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Television on Monday, September 20, at 8:00 p.m.The Women’s Choir will perform Gustav Holst’s famous orchestral suite, The Planets. The piece is a seven-movement orchestral, with each movement named after a planet of the solar system.

Frontier Natural Products Co-op™ employee band Aeroroot, comprised of Mount Mercy College Assistant Professor of Business Tracy Tunwall, alumni Clint Landis ’88 and Brett Karminski ’01, along with Steve Krusie, Frontier’s public relations director, has been selected for the semifinals of Fortune magazine’s annual “Battle of the Corporate Bands” for the second straight year in a row. The band will perform in Las Vegas on May 22 at the Western Regional Competition.

The Mount Mercy College Choir will perform A Schubertiad, the music of Franz Schubert, during a special performance on March 17 at Noon in Stello Performance Hall, Warde Hall on the Mount Mercy campus. The concert is free and open to the public.The Choir will perform “To Music,” “Little Rose on the Heath,” “Laughter and Tears,” “To the Nightingale,” “Travelling,” “Death and the Maiden,” “Serenade,” “Night and Dreams,” “Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel,” “The Joy of Living,” and “The Dance.”

The Q&A begins at 3:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall, and the special musical performance with the Mount Mercy College Choir begins at 7:30 in Stello Performance Hall, Warde Hall.

The Mount Mercy College Choir and Jazz Connection presented a ceremony of traditional readings and carols of the season on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. The concert took place in Stello Performance Hall, Warde Hall, and was free and open to the public. The choir performed Psallite by Michael Praetorius, Carol of the Candle by Stephen Paulus, My Dancing Day, arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, Sing We All Noel, arranged by Gary Parks, and Christmas Day by Gustav Holst.
