For the seventh year, Mount Mercy University is host to The Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success, a summer program serving students of color in Cedar Rapids Metro and area schools, as the program began its 26th year on June 8.
To further promote and sustain The Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success program, a fundraiser is planned at the African American Museum on Saturday, June 27.
Mount Mercy welcomes long-time Cedar Rapidian Dr. Ruth White to the university’s board of trustees. Dr. White served as an English teacher, Advance Placement Literature instructor and academic advisor to minority students in the Cedar Rapids Community School District for over 30 years. Currently Dr. White is the Executive Director for The Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success—a college preparatory program for students of color—and serves as an educational diversity and cultural competency consultant for Transwebglobal.
Mount Mercy welcomes Jane C. Meyer, Ph.D., to the university’s Board of Trustees. Dr. Meyer is a 1982 Mount Mercy alumna and the senior associate director of athletics for The University of Iowa.
“Dr. Meyer’s exceptional leadership in athletics along with her tremendous experience in higher education will be extremely beneficial as the University welcomes the exciting days ahead,” said Mount Mercy University President Laurie Hamen.
Laurie M. Hamen, J.D., a higher education veteran with nearly 30 years of experience in student affairs, enrollment management, athletics, academics and grant procurement, will be Mount Mercy University’s ninth president.
Mount Mercy University is celebrating the commitment of its Board of Trustees to the university during the annual Trustees Week October 22 – 26. Trustees will have an opportunity to engage with faculty, staff and students in the classroom as well as other campus activities.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) board of trustees announced that Mount Mercy University Board of Trustee Scott B. Lynch has been unanimously elected to serve as the company’s interim president and chief executive officer.
Mount Mercy University welcomed two new members to its Board of Trustees this past fall, Dawn M. Bazarko and Ronald J. Herold. Both bring dynamic professional credentials and leadership experience to the Board.
Mount Mercy University mourns the loss of Board of Trustee member Tim White, who passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
Friends may call during a visitation at Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids on Monday, April 25 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 26 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids. Lunch will follow at Cedar Rapids Country Club.
