Mount Mercy University will host Photographer José Galvez on Monday, Oct. 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room as he presents his multi-media lecture “Aquí Estamos – Here We Are.” Documenting the Latino population in the United States for 40 years, Galvez combines photo presentations with lectures on various topics from the impact of César Chávez and the Chicano movement to recent Latino immigration in southern portions of the United States.

Mount Mercy University began its 2016-17 academic year with the largest enrollment in the university’s nearly 90 year history—an estimated total of 1886 students. The fall 2016 student body is on track to set records in number of traditional freshmen, residential students, student-athletes, new online students and international students.

About 100 Mount Mercy University freshmen are teaming up with the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance to help with service projects around the city during Mercy in Action Day, Aug. 21. For the second consecutive year, Mount Mercy students are encouraged to explore downtown Cedar Rapids while participating in the service projects. Projects include trash pick-up, landscaping, and cleaning benches and lights.

Mount Mercy University recognized Aimee Redlinger ‘16 with the President’s Award at Honors Convocation on Saturday, May 21. The award was unique this year because it was given to an accelerated undergraduate student for the first time in University history.

Mount Mercy University will graduate the largest class in its history during commencement exercises Sunday, May 22, at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids. The Class of 2016 includes nearly 400 undergraduate students and 175 graduate students. The class is also the first to include students who finished their degree in a completely online format.

Mount Mercy University’s Enactus club placed in the top 12 at the 2016 Enactus United States National Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 17. This is the highest ranking the team has earned in the 18 years Enactus (formally SIFE) has been at Mount Mercy.

With the April 18 win at regionals in Rogers, Arkansas, Mount Mercy’s Enactus team continues on to the United States National Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri, May 15–17. Congratulations, team, and bring us home another win! The student-led Enactus program offers educational opportunities to women through the EmpowHer initiative, which covers topics like resume building, cover letters, creating business cards, proper attire and what to expect during a job search.
