Mount Mercy University was pleased to welcome the Hawkeye Area Boy Scouts of America to campus May 11 - 13 for a camp out on the Hill! The Scouts were treated to visits from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department's K9 Unit, and KGAN CBS2.

Mount Mercy University welcomed community partners and members of the public during the 10th annual HACAP Freedom from Hunger campaign kickoff, held in the University Center at Mount Mercy University on May 11. Special guest speakers included Mount Mercy President Christopher Blake; Rockwell Collins representative and Freedom from Hunger committee member Dave Gosch; Julia Kent, from KMRY and Director of Food Reservoir Bob Untiedt.

Area high school students selected as winners of Mount Mercy University's Creative Writing Contest for High School Juniors shared their work at the Pathways Scholarship Festival at Mount Mercy on May 2.  Winners were:  First place: Brennan Bogert, Regina High School, "My Neighbor's Daughter" Second place: Sarah Mork, Marion High School, "Loneliness" Third place: Marissa Bouska, North Fayette High School, "Washed Away"  Congratulations to all!

Mount Mercy University welcomed Dr. Anne Curzan for the keynote address during Scholarship Festival on May 2, 2012. Curzan, an associate professor in the Department of English at the University of Michigan, explained to audience members fuzzy word usage and puzzling linguistic mysteries.

Held annually, this event showcases diverse students projects representing a variety of academic subjects chosen from outstanding senior theses, capstone experiences, honors projects, and independent research projects. #Pathways

Mount Mercy's 2011-2012 women's basketball team advanced to the NAIA Nationals for the first time since 1995. The Mustangs lost in the quarterfinals of the tournament, ending their season 27-9 overall and with the most wins by a Mustang squad since 1994-1995.

Mount Mercy University celebrated a cherished 30-year tradition during the Grotto May Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 1, in the historic Lady of Sorrows Grotto. Activities included a reenactment of the 1920s Isadora Duncan scarf dance and performances of 1930s music by Mount Mercy's Communication, Literature & Arts Department.

Mount Mercy's Professor of Biology and Department Chair Dr. Neil Bernstein led students in a grass planting in the spring of 2012 on the hill of Basile Hall. The environmentally friendly "no mow grass" will keep away erosion and doesn't requiring mowing in most circumstances. Dr. Bernstein shared with the group that the toxins and vapors released from 30 seconds of using a push mower equals roughly five minutes of driving a car.  This endeavor was supported by the Sisters of Mercy Ministry Grant for Sustainability.

Congratulations to our retiring faculty: Professor of Art Jane Gilmor Associate Professor of Speech and Drama Kathi Pudzuvelis Senior Lecturer in Art and Gallery Director David Van Allen Chair for Psychology, Social Work and Sociology Department; Professor of Psychology Don Damstgeet  Thank you for your commitment to Mount Mercy and best of luck in this new chapter of your life!

Mount Mercy University hosted a STEM Moms Night out celebrating moms and other caregivers on April 23. This state-wide event in collaboration with the Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Partnership encourages educating youth in science, technology, engineering and math.

A look back at Mount Mercy's men's basketball team during the 2011 - 2012 season. The Mustangs reached the semifinals of the MCC Tournament and finished the season with a 19-12 record.

Students from Mount Mercy University, Coe College, and Kirkwood Community College came together Saturday, April 14, for Cedar Rapids Dance Marathon held on the Mount Mercy campus. The students raised funds for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
